Days Out Group

The Days Out Group makes occasional visits to place and events on the Isle of Wight and the Mainland.

The event we have visited most frequently is the Christmas Market at Portsmouth Dockyard. This year we are planning to have a change and visit the Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market. This runs from 24 November to 21 December. As yet we have not chosen a date for our visit.

Earlier this year we took a cruise on the River Thames from Westminster Pier to Greenwich. More recently we visited The Orrery Post card Museum in Union Street, Ryde and enjoyed both the displays and the tea and cakes in the café.

Note: An Orrery is a mechanical model of the solar system where the planets can be revolved at the correct relative velocities round the sun.

In London we have also been to Westminster Abbey and to the Houses of Parliament.

Chichester with a boat trip on the Ship Canal
Weald and Downland Museum at Singleton
Roman Palace at Fishbourne
Petworth House
Arundel Castle

On the Isle of Wight we have visited:

Owl and Monkey Haven (near Newport)
Dimbola at Freshwater Bay
Carisbrooke Castle
